Time Strategies

I think the schedule I have chosen will work well for me.  I have planned it in gaps between my classes, as well as when I have several hour-long spaces of time.  I have actually made my own weekly calendar, combining all due dates and assignments of my classes into one big document sorted by week.  Since I am hoping to stick to a schedule, I plan to have time for extra credit assignments as well.

The Myth of “Too Busy by Tim Grahl interested me because I know that sometimes, I think of myself as “too busy” for anything.  I like how he suggests using “prioritizing my time” instead of using the word “busy.”  Busy has such a different connotation, and I like how prioritizing one’s time feels less chaotic and more productive.  Being busy can so overwhelming, especially since as Grahl points out, it is something that happens to us and not a choice.  I definitely will be taking Grahl’s advice on how to prioritize my life.

The Psychology of Checklists by Lauren Marchese is also an interesting article.  I have heard of SMART goals before, and I feel it is a really good and useful tool to help someone make productive goals.  What I really enjoyed about her article was that she explained how our brains chemically respond to success.  She goes on to explain and that was helpful because I didn’t know about our brain’s response to success and things like checklists.

  1. I think the myth of "too busy" is interesting too. I had never though of how when we tell people that we are too busy, it takes away the choice aspect of what we decide to do, instead of prioritization being the reason we are too busy. I like that you mention that you have a Word document to log your days and assignments (I have an Excel spreadsheet, but it's quite crude since I didn't try to make it look impressive.) I hope the strategy is working well for you this semester!
