Feedback Thoughts

Nawaz gives four steps to silence the critical voices.  The first is look for the positive.  Number two is hear the positive.  Three is Dig in to understand the positive.  Four is believe the positive and act as if it is true.  These steps make sense and have an easy-to-follow progression that makes it easier to complete.  Making sure to ask specific positive questions, like what worked well, is just as important as asking what didn’t work.  Nawaz says it is important to take down the positive so you “know what to replicate.”  I think what she is saying is helpful, and I like that she doesn’t completely dismiss negative feedback.

These are the tips from Spencer.  Don’t compare yourself to others is an important one.  I know it is hard for me to not look at someone else and be jealous about how well they are doing.  Abandoning perfectionism is also something I need to learn.  You can’t be perfect and Spencer says that perfectionism drives self-doubt.  Spencer also suggests that you be vulnerable to a trusted community.  I always make sure to be there for my friends, to be a trusted and encouraging listening ear.  I can also talk to them when I feel self-doubt and I think it does really help alleviate my own fears.  Embracing a growth mindset is something I am already trying to do.  The rest of Spencer’s tips were also helpful and have really helped me to start thinking about how I can change my own way of perfectionism thinking.
